Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam continued his meetings in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where he met with a number of international leaders and officials, discussing with them developments in Lebanon and the region, efforts aimed at de-escalation and enhancing stability, alongside supporting Lebanese state institutions. In this context, Salam met with the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, where the two sides affirmed their commitment to multilateralism and the pivotal role of the United Nations in safeguarding international peace and security, as well as the importance of defending the rules-based international order and strengthening multilateral action. Salam thanked Finland for its contribution to UNIFIL and its role in supporting stability in southern Lebanon, while the two sides stressed the importance of ensuring the continuity of the UN's role in Lebanon and the presence of an international force after the conclusion of UNIFIL's mission, so as to prevent any vacuum and contribute to preserving stability. Salam also met with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, in the presence of Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raji, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan Ayman Safadi. During the meeting, they discussed following up on the results of the meeting held in Paris with the participation of King Abdullah II, Presidents Joseph Aoun and Emmanuel Macron, while emphasizing the importance of continuing Lebanese-Jordanian coordination and intensifying diplomatic efforts to de-escalate and spare the region further confrontations. At the UN headquarters, Salam met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing with him the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, noting that about 329,000 people remain displaced, and stressing the importance of continuing to mobilize funding for the humanitarian response and supporting UN agencies in assisting the displaced. Salam also stressed the importance of maintaining an international presence under the UN umbrella in the south in the post-UNIFIL phase, contributing to preserving stability and supporting the path of extending the Lebanese state's authority. Salam also met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where they discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region and the efforts exerted for de-escalation, alongside following up on what was agreed upon during Salam's visit to Istanbul last July regarding enhancing Lebanese-Turkish relations. The meeting addressed expanding cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, energy, and infrastructure, electricity and railway interconnection projects between Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon, in addition to the prefabricated houses file and the support Turkey can provide for the return and recovery track in the south and the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure. In another meeting, Salam met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, where bilateral relations and developments in the region were discussed, along with following up on the results of Salam's visit to Baghdad last July, particularly joint projects in the fields of energy, transport, and regional connectivity. The two sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening state authority and its institutions and proceeding with the path of restricting weapons to the state's hands, as a fundamental pillar in safeguarding sovereignty and consolidating stability.
